OHIOHEALTH & MOUNT CARMEL
HEALTH SYSTEMS
JOINT VENTURE PROGRESS
December 2004
COMTEX Progress

The joint venture regional healthcare laundry, COMTEX, will
soon complete its first full year of processing general linen
for the Mount Carmel and OhioHealth Systems. In the ten (10)
months since commissioning, COMTEX has processed over 16,500,000
pounds of soiled general linen from the two healthcare systems.
As COMTEX enters it second full year of operations, it is
now time to examine and explore the feasibility of including
additional services to the system. Set out below are the key
areas of growth under investigation for COMTEX that are planned
for the New Year.
- The addition of hospitals to the service.
- A study and investigation into providing reusable O.R.
textile services.
- The introduction of an on-line web based customer order
system.
- The introduction of on-site end user linen inventories
to assist with inventory control.
- The publishing of regular utilization data for linen usage
management purposes.
Additional Hospitals

Commencing in January, COMTEX will be marketing its services
to a number of health facilities in the greater Columbus area.
The plan is to add additional volume in a controlled manner
to maximize COMTEX efficiency.
Reusable O. R. Textile Services

In January, COMTEX will launch an investigation and feasibility
study for all of the key OhioHealth and Mount Carmel facilities,
to determine whether or not there is a significant cost advantage
to providing a reusable O.R. textile service.
On-Line Web Based Order System

In the first quarter of 2005, COMTEX will be introducing a
web based on-line ordering system for all of its customers.
The system is designed to allow any customer to add, delete,
or modify their daily orders of linen from any computer terminal.
On-Site End User Inventory

COMTEX is currently preparing to test an end-user inventory
by item at a selected customer site. Once fine tuned, COMTEX
will be able to provide a total inventory by item and by end-user
site for each facility on a quarterly basis.
Utilization Data

The first of regular pounds per adjusted patient day (lbs/APD)
data has been collected and reported to members of the COMTEX
Board. Once accepted, this information will be provided to
each system on a regular basis.
