COMTEX management staff has now settled into the office area
of the plant and continue with their work to direct the completion
of the plant and equipment installation. January marks a milestone
point in the project as key members of the management staff
join the COMTEX team. The Holiday season has resulted in three
lost days of construction and installation with Christmas
day, New Years day and two half days preceding the holidays.
However, everyone remains confident the plant will be turned
over to COMTEX as planned on January 9, 2004. Set out below
are some of the key systems that were placed on-line in December.
- Installation of the time management system for production
staff.
- Installation of the telephone switch within the plant.
- Activation of the internal security system and paging
system for COMTEX.
- Completion of the in plant office, storage and maintenance
areas.
- Installation of the internet service including e-mail
for COMTEX managers. COMTEX staff can found at 575 Harmon

The pictures below set out the finished office area on December
31, 2003.
Equipment
At the end of the month of December, COMTEX will have received
a total of 725 Ebco carts. The clean side rail system, including
the storage rails and destination drop points for towels,
sheets, blankets, and hand folding item have been installed.
Within the boiler room, the air compressor and air dryer has
been activated and in the first week of January the boilers,
heat reclamation system and water softeners will be activated
and tested under live loads.
At the present time all Jensen equipment save for eight roll
top tables has been delivered to the site and is in the process
of being installed. Set out below are some of the key elements
underway during the month:
- Installation of the ducting for the CBW dryers, W/E dryers
and Ironer vents.
- Installation of the clean side equipment including the
ironers, feeders, folders, stackers, and conveyors.
- Cart dumpers are anticipated to be installed on January
5, 2004.
- The first wash chemical delivery is anticipated for January
15, 2004.
Budgeting & Finance
The Fiscal Year 2005 operating budget was approved by the
Board at the December 17th Board meeting. Of significance
is the fact that this first operating budget has achieved
the laundry charge rates and service levels set out in the
original pro-forma that was developed for COMTEX over three
years prior.
Staffing
Three maintenance technicians have now been hired by Alex
Boeriu to maintain the plant and equipment. Jack comes to
COMTEX with several years of experience at Honda in Marysville,
Ohio while Michael has been trained on electrical equipment
systems in Austria. James on the other hand hails from Virginia
and has numerous years experience in production plants with
conveyor systems and PLC electrical components.
Staff are currently preparing for the next job fair to be
held at the COMTEX site on January 8, 2004.
Health Facility Start-Up Date
As
COMTEX progresses towards the commissioning and start-up of
the Laundry agreement has been reached through its Customer
Committee as to the timing and sequence of Hospital start
dates. Set out below are the anticipated start dates that
each facility will begin sending and receiving laundry from
COMTEX:
- Week of Feb 1/04 - Victorian Village Health Center, St.
Ann’s and Doctors Hospital.
- Week of Feb.8/04 - Grant Medical Center.
- Week of Feb. 22/04 - Mount Carmel West and Mount Carmel
East.
- Week of Mar. 14/04 - Riverside Hospital.
- Week of Mar. 28/04 - Marion General Hospital, Morrow
County Hospital, Hardin Memorial Hospital and Galion Memorial
Hospital.
Please raise these dates within your facility to ensure that
everyone is prepared for a seamless start-up of Laundry Service
