Land & Buildings

COMTEX has reached the stage where the focus is now shifting from the construction of the building to the installation of Laundry infra-structure and equipment. At this point in the project much energy begins to shift to the third of the five building blocks of COMTEX. (1.Design; 2.Build; 3.Equip; 4.Staff; 5.Operate). Progress within the building over the past 30 days includes:

  • Completion of the interior concrete floor, trenches, curbs, and pits.
  • Switch-over to permanent power within the building.
  • Completion natural gas tap and meter installation for the facility.
  • Completion of interior washrooms, locker rooms, storage and chemical rooms.
  • Installation of the wash chemical piping systems in the dry trenches.
  • Completion of the drywall installation in the offices and commencement of the plastering.
  • Installation of various exterior curbs, loading dock pads, and concrete on the exterior.

Equipment

At the end of the month of October COMTEX will have received a total of 440 Ebco carts. The weigh-scale frames have been installed, as have the bulk chemical storage tanks. Boilers, water heaters, high pressure pumps, compressors, air dryers, and heat reclamation systems are being installed and should be connected and operational within the next three weeks.

A final delivery and installation schedule for key production equipment has been confirmed that includes the following major deliveries:

  • The wash chemical storage and delivery system has been received, and installation commenced on October the 25th.
  • The linen cart wash for the Laundry has been received, and installation commenced on Monday, October the 27th.
  • The Jensen monorail track for the soiled side of the laundry has been delivered from the United Kingdom, and installation commenced on Wednesday, October 29th.
  • The 1st and 2nd shipments of CBW Tunnel washers/dryers and have arrived in port from Germany and are in the process of being cleared through customs for delivery to COMTEX as planned on November 3rd and 11th respectively.

Budgeting & Finance

The first draft of the final COMTEX operating budget will be presented to the Board at the November 19th Board Meeting.

The Customer Committee met on September 29th to confirm the schedule for linen inventories at each of the sites, and to schedule the start-up of services to COMTEX in February and March. The schedule below sets out the anticipated start dates of each of the facilities.

Tenders for the transportation service for COMTEX have been received and two short-listed companies are being interviewed for the contract. Negotiations are currently underway to finalize the details with the successful bidder.

Staffing

All laundry staff interested in positions at COMTEX have been interviewed, and the successful candidates have been offered positions. Offer letters have been issued to approximately seventy (70) employees within the two systems, which include their anticipated start dates and wage rates.

Set out below are the anticipated start dates for facilities and employee groups:

  • Feb. 2/04 -- Victorian Village Health Center, St. Ann’s Hospital and Doctors Hospital.
  • Feb.14/04 -- Grant Medical Center
  • Feb. 28.04 -- Mount Carmel West and Mount Carmel East.
  • Mar. 20/04 -- Riverside Hospital
  • Apr. 4/04 -- Marion General Hospital, Morrow County Hospital, Hardin Memorial Hospital and Galion Memorial Hospital.

The COO has offered the final management position to Plant Manager candidate Kevin Kozak. He has accepted the position and will join the COMTEX team in January 2004.
