Land & Buildings
Progress on the COMTEX building and site has accelerated during
the month of September and the following milestones have been
reached:
- Installation of doors, windows,
and dock levelers,
- Completion of electrical, plumbing,
and framing in the offices,
- Completion of the concrete flooring
and pits in the plant,
- Installation of HVAC in the
plant including space heaters and cooling coils,
- Completion of the high voltage
wiring from the transformer to the switch gear to the distribution
panels within the plant, and
- Progress on the plant offices,
seamstress area, mechanical room, soiled laundry workers
lunchroom, and the shipping and receiving docks.
The pictures below set out the construction activity at COMTEX
on September 26, 2003.
Equipment
At the end of September 2003, COMTEX will have received a
total of 320 Ebco carts, and is storing 240 at the Mount Carmel
Obetz Distribution Center and 80 at the OhioHealth Distribution
Center. In addition, frames for the weigh scale system, tanks
for the chemical storage systems and various infrastructure
items, such as air compressors, air dryer and receiver tanks
are on-site awaiting installation.
A final delivery schedule for key production equipment has
been confirmed that includes the following major deliveries:
- Cart Wash Systems - October
6, 2003
- Soil Sort system, including
soiled side mono rail - October 29, 2003
- 1st shipment of CBW Tunnel
washers/dryers, and conveyors - November 4, 2003
- 2nd shipment of CBW Tunnel
washers/dryers, and conveyors - November 11, 2003
- Feeders/Ironers/Folders/Stackers/Conveyors/Small
Piece Folders - November 24, 2003
Budgeting & Finance
The first draft of the final COMTEX operating budget will
be presented to the Board at the October 15th Board Meeting.
Several key components of the Laundry’s budget are now
confirmed including the cost of natural gas that was purchased
on the NYMEX market since the commodity reached our predetermined
bid price. In addition, finalization of employee health and
life benefits will be reached within the next week, enabling
a sound budget figure to be prepared.
The Customer Committee will meet on September 29th to confirm
the schedule for the taking of linen inventories at each of
the sites and to schedule the start-up of services from COMTEX
in the spring.
Three new hospitals have agreed to join COMTEX in the spring
of 2004. They include:
- Morrow County Hospital,
- Hardin Memorial Hospital, and
- Galion Community Hospital.
Staffing
The Human Resources Committee is now in a position to present
the names of the OhioHealth and Mount Carmel laundry workers
that are interested in positions at COMTEX. COMTEX will commence
interviewing of these individuals October 13th, 2003, with
job offers to current OhioHealth and Mount Carmel laundry
employees expected no later than November 15th. These staff
members are anticipated to commence their duties at COMTEX
in the months of January and February 2004.
The COO and Team are currently interviewing applicants for
